Day 39 & 40 – 2012 United States Olympic Marathon Trials Journey

United States Olympic Trials Marathon Qualifying Standard – 2:19:00 or under
My goal – 2:18:59 or under
Current PR – 2:30:03

Thursday, December 9, 2010 -
AM - 4 miles @ 6:15 mile pace (25:00).  I ran this on the treadmill again.  I have been fighting a cold for 10 days now and am just trying to avoid staying sick so I figure running inside is the best idea.  I ran this 4 mile run in 6:10 pace (24:41).  I felt fine and then I got three sets each upper and lower back weights.
 
PM - 2 mile warm up @ 6:30 pace (13:00).
 
4 x 400m @ 66 seconds (4:24 mile pace) w/ 400m jog
My splits = 66.1, 65.9, 66.2, 66.1
 
4 x 200m @ 32, 31, 30, 29 w/ 200m jog
I hit all those times
 
2 mile cool down @ 6:30 pace (13:00).  I ran 6:45 pace for the cool down (13:30)
 
I felt okay during and after this workout.  This wasn't a workout that was meant to be very stressful, but to get the legs turning over so they will be ready for the race shock that will be coming Saturday.  Still battling the cold so didn't feel that great.  Going to get some major sleep tonight and hopefully feel a lot better for the race on Saturday,
 
Friday, December 10, 2010 - Pre-race day.  5 miles @ 6:25 mile pace (32:15).  I ran right on for this run, 32:14.  I did drills and 4 striders after the run.  Now it's time to just rest up and get ready for tomorrow's races.
